STEP 1
Clean the wound.
Wash your hands with soap and water before touching the wound. Rinse the cut or scrape under running water to remove any dirt or debris. You can use mild soap to gently cleanse the area around the wound.
STEP 2
Apply an antiseptic.
After cleaning the wound, apply an over-the-counter antiseptic solution or antibiotic ointment to help prevent infection.
STEP 3
Cover the wound when possible.

STEP 4
Pain relief.
If the cut or scrape is painful, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, following the instructions on the packaging. CoverAid include topical pain relief.
STEP 5
Monitor for signs of infection.
Keep an eye on the wound for any signs of infection, such as increasing pain, redness, swelling, pus, or warmth around the area. If you notice any signs of infection, seek medical attention.
